Ahoy thar, matey! It’s time to celebrate at Aquifer Adventure! Join our volunteer crew for a swashbuckling adventure on the high sloughs, as the Portland Water Bureau and Columbia Slough Watershed Council team up to present a FREE, family-friendly event full of educational games and pirate booty. We’ve had over 800 pirates-in-training attend in past years – and we really need your help to make this a huge success. This is a great opportunity for groups and individuals ages 16 and up.

Event open to the public 12-4pm  
Shift 1: 8 AM -11:00 AM (Set Up) 
Shift 2: 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM (Event Shift) 
Shift 3: 1:30 - 4:30 PM (Event Shift)
Shift 4: 5:00 - 6:30 PM

Slough School Volunteers - Fall Season
If you enjoy time in the outdoors and working with children, this is a great opportunity for you! Lead nature walks, enjoy Slough wildlife with curious, energetic students and build your outdoor leadership skills. With the support of experienced outdoor educators, you'll help bring outdoor, experiential education to students within the beautiful Columbia Slough Watershed. Looking to improve your outdoor leadership skills? Hone your teaching style? Consider applying to become our Slough School Education Intern this Fall!

The Slough School Education Intern will prepare and deliver field-based educational and stewardship programs and classroom-based educational presentations to K-12 students attending schools within the Columbia Slough Watershed. She/He will also collaborate on weekend community stewardship events and assist with general council activities. View the full position description here.

Cruise along the scenic Willamette Boulevard, and then glide towards Peninsula, Arbor Lodge, Kenton, Columbia Annex and McCoy Parks to enjoy an array of activities, food, music, vendors and fun.

Trash Be Gone!!

Don't forget!  Clean out your own space this week and get that stuff ready to be carried to the dumpster this coming Saturday, May 10th from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Then after you do that, help someone else or help clean our street of weeds, trash, etc.

May 10th is the day to beautify our neighborhood!!

Clean Up Time Is Coming !!

Spring Clean Up

Pitch in and help clean up to keep our beautiful neighborhood beautiful. Work parties will clean the triangle & the Bridgeton Slough at Gantenbein Ave and Marine Drive and along Bridgeton Road and Marine Drive.

There will be three drop boxes.
One at either end of the neighborhood and one for the cleanup of the corner of Bridgeton and Gantenbein.

This year we are strongly encouraging recycling materials.
We will have a special location for recyclable metals, electronics & appliances.

Three secure shred boxes will be at Channel’s Edge for your convenience.
( A $ donation for the document shredder is strongly encouraged to help defray costs).

Slough 101: March 15th  - Get to know your watershed!

We have just a few spots left! Come learn from over eight local experts and see the watershed as it was and is Slough 101today. This FREE workshop covers the history, water, wildlife, and current issues of the Columbia Slough Watershed. Presenters will lead hands-on activities including a tour of a pump station and macroinvertebrate discovery. Pre-registration is required for this free workshop, and light refreshments will be provided. Suitable for adults and teens 14 & up.

Tadpole Tales (Ages 3-5)

Tadpole Tales CroppedWednesdays March- May 10-11am.

Don't miss this nature discovery program for little explorers ages 3-5. Watch birds fly overhead, search for hidden animal homes, and learn about local trees and flowers. Themes change each week and locations vary each month.  Suggested donation/child is $3; adults free.

Slough Tour: Water Flow

MCDD 3Tuesday, March 18th 4-5 PM.
Learn about the history of water control in the Portland area and get an up-close look at the people, machines, and structures that keep parts of NE Portland and Gresham from flooding. Co-hosted by the Columbia Slough Watershed Council and the Multnomah County Drainage Districts, this tour led by a District Engineer highlights the water flow of the Columbia Slough waterway and the levees and pumps that maintain water levels.

Free, pre-registration requested, suitable for ages 10 and up. Please dress for the weather.

It's Planting Time - We Need YOU!

Tools only Stewardship Saturday Force LakeThe ground is soft and the time is right! The Council is busy taking advantage of planting season and we need your help.  Volunteers are needed at a number of upcoming restoration events.  If you have a group of people you'd like to organize - please contact Hanna Davis at: hanna.davis@columbiaslough.org

We'll be at three locations in March and April.  Come play in the mud and help us plant natives in the watershed!
