*Volunteer Opportunity*
Represent the Council at the Better Living Show!
When: This Saturday March 23rd, from 2:00 - 6:00 PM
Where: Expo Center, 2060 North Marine Drive, Portland 97217

We are looking for a volunteer to come to the Expo Center this weekend to help represent the Council. The Better Living Show is where everything green, sustainable and efficient comes together!
If you have an interest in talking with people about the work that the Columbia Slough Watershed Council does, this would be a fun afternoon for you. You will get instructions before you volunteer so you'll be prepared for any questions!

Clean-up at Johnson Lake
Saturday, April 6th , 2013 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM 
Location: NE Colfax Street and NE 92nd Street

Join our friends at Portland Parks & Recreation and the Sumner Association of Neighbors for a morning of spiffing up Johnson Lake!
Help remove invasive plants, clear trails, and remove litter from this "hidden gem" of a natural area. Sumner neighborhood will pay for lunch from Subway for the first 10 volunteers who sign up!

Rain Gardens 101

Learn how to build your own rain garden! We'll explore the critical role rain gardens can play in urban stream restoration, and how they add beautiful landscaping to your yard at the same time. Join this interactive workshop!

Brunch with the Birds

Look for songbirds and spring migrants with metro naturalist James Davis before settling down to a delicious lunch provided by the Council. $5 suggested donation, suitable for adults and teens aged 12+. Bring your own binoculars if you have them. Advanced registration required.

Earth Day Clean-up at Force Lake
Saturday, April 20th , 2013 9 AM- 12 PM

Celebrate Earth Day by joining Friends of Force Lake, SOLVE and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council on a clean up of Force Lake. We'll be removing invasive plants and picking up trash from in and around the lake. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, Litter Cleanup, Native Planting, Maintenance & Monitoring.

Bring Your Own Boat Paddle

Location: Smith & Bybee Wetlands

Load up your canoe or kayak for a springtime paddle! CSCW staff/volunteers will lead this group trip at Smith & Bybee Wetlands in search of bald eagles, otters, turtles, and osprey. $5 suggested donation, suitable for adults and teens 12, pre-registration requested.

You must bring your own canoe or kayak and lifejacket to participate in this paddle trip. NO equipment is available to borrow from the Council.

Tadpole Tales - March 27th!
Wednesdays (March- May), 10-11:00 AM
Locations:
March: Whitaker Ponds Nature Park, 7040 NE 47th Ave, Portland
April: Columbia Children’s Arboretum, 300 NE Meadow Ln., Portland
May: Columbia Slough Water Quality Facility, 19595 NE Sandy, Portland Routes are accessible to strollers.

Children aged 3-5 with their parents are invited to a short story and guided nature walk. Watch birds fly overhead, search for hidden animal homes, and learn about local trees and flowers. Families are welcome to bring a snack.

Event runs rain or shine.
$3 admission/donation per child, no charge for adults.

Outreach Team Volunteers Needed!
Do you like to meet new people? Do you care about healthy communities? Then this might be the perfect opportunity for you! The Columbia Slough Watershed Council is seeking passionate volunteers to help represent the organization at community events as a part of our Outreach Team. Volunteers will receive training on expectations of the role and how to represent the council.  Time commitment is two events over the spring/summer season.  Outreach Team volunteers and are contacted as opportunities arise and can choose opportunities based on availability.

Our first training is April 17th 5:30-7:00.  Dinner provided!
